A wonderful Caribbean paradise with sun, sand and sweet Cuba libres. However outside of the main tourist locations and resorts travelling around this exotic island is not for the faint hearted.
The island itself would be well described as a land stuck in time and by stuck in time I mean stuck in the 1950s. The roads are filled with passing classic old cars and the cities are filled with romantic vintage buildings. The roads are reminiscent of the old pictures of the first motorways built in Britain.
A phrase I learnt from a friendly local of the island was “Our wine may be sour, but it’s Our wine.” I thought this to be a lovely, patriotic and proud phrase that to me tells of the love Cuban natives have for their home country. This sense of pride and patriotism is definitely something that is not prominent in my own native land.
It was for me and I’m sure it will be for anyone that takes the plunge to visit Cuba and venture outside the Resorts, a wonderfully unique experience. I felt that although Cuba isn’t vastly different to other places I have visited in the world but I did find that everything in Cuba is different even if just slightly.
Overall for what Cuba lacks in modernity I believe that it more than enough makes up. for in character.
