Where to learn Spanish in Guatemala?

My stop in San Pedro was for Spanish school, a great place to learn. Mayab was the school I went with. The price was very good and the teachers were fantastic. The atmosphere of a small town makes it such a welcoming environment to learn in.

I stayed for a week and in 5 days I was able to learn enough conversational Spanish to get me through the next couple months I spent in Mexico. It made life on the road for me a lot easier after that.

Lake Atitlan is one of the most backpacker friendly and popular parts of Guatemala. With its abundance of hostels, hikes and hippies its not surprising it was a stop for me on my trip last year.

The surroundings are stunning. It’s green topped mountains and volcanoes frame the stunning blues of the lake.

The town has some really great coffee places which helped to fuel my Spanish lessons. From now on I always lookout for Guatemalan coffee in supermarkets or cafes where ever I am.

If you find yourself in Guatemala anytime soon I would definitely recommend visiting San Pedro, I’m sure you won’t regret it.
