Book Review: Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson

Firstly this book is known as a classic, I however know it from the Muppets version of it as a VHS that I’m sure would probably still haunt my parents to watch after the numerous times I must have watched it as a kid. However it has been a long time since I last saw the film and looking for a nice easy fiction book to listen too I used a audible credit and started listening.

To be honest it is a swashbuckling tale of double-crossing pirates and dirty sea dogs. It is mainly told from the perspective of a young teen Jim Hawkins and so the audience is for young adults but I still think it holds well for someone in their late 20’s or any age really. The story follows a band of sailors looking for the buried treasure on treasure island where x marks the spot as the famous saying goes. With twists and turns the story rolls on quickly never quite sitting still.

If you are looking for a lighthearted fiction book to read to distract yourself from the world for a few hours I would recommend Treasure Island as it is a fun listen/ read and isn’t too taxing in the winter months. Listening to it while being in the close to freezing temperatures of the UK only makes the heat of treasure island more appealing each minute I listened to.

Some other books I have listened too recently that I would also recommend if you do like Treasure Island would be… The Lost World, Arthur Conan Doyle and King Solomon’s Mines, H. Rider Haggard . These were two great easy listens and also a couple more classic adventure tales of times gone by..
