53. Memory Lane: What does Memory Lane look like? How do you get there?

Continuation of the shadow story.

Chapter 5

Jim could never quite remember everything that went on in life just like every other human on the planet. Humans never tend to remember everything, exactly the way it was their brains always try to twist it in some respect, usually the past is viewed through rose tinted glasses. Always you hear people looking back to times gone by that was definitely way better than the present. This being so when the past was the present that time was bleaker that what preceded it. This is how the human mind tends to work. Too much emotionality and feeling with humans. Shadows on the other hand usually had their emotions well in check and would be able to recall minute details of every event that passed before them.

Jim’s memory lane could look rosy at times, a beautiful summer evening with his ex when the relationship first started, walking hand in hand making their way back to the motel after a burger and a movie ( his style of romance). He liked to look back on his past relationships as good times, even though they were far from it and him being on his own again was 100% a good thing. But when humans look back they like to see that, it makes them feel comfortable and not like that was a mistake. When I remember clearly those rough times for Jim I’m glad I hopefully will never see his latest of escapades again, watching them was a cringeworthy affair and her usual shadow was far from being interesting in the slightest.

However Jim’s other memory lane he tried to avoid was a much worse street to walk down. The sort of street you give a wide birth to and walk 3 blocks out of your way to avoid walking down at night. The sort of street with broken street lamps and boards across the windows. Even us shadows don’t like being down those sorts of streets at night and luckily with the lack of lighting we usually won’t be needed down there. The sort of streets where the inhabitants are less than favorable shall we say and you never know what they could be up to in that shadowless street. Jim had a dark past and he never liked to visit that part of his memory lane but it liked to visit him now and then, just to check in, just to remind him who he was. Once upon a time.
