56. Holding Hands: The first time you held someone’s hand

The first time is always the best, the rush you feel as you take the leap to outstretch your hand to someone else’s. Your head is flying round with the usual nonsensical anxiety like “what if she pulls her hand away?” “what if you read this wrong” ” Oh what a fool you would look”. This is followed with a great rush of excitement from the sympathetic nervous system telling your cardiovascular system to step it up a gear, increasing your heart rate, like the call of the captain of a large steam ship down to the engine room for the men to shovel more coal on the fire to pick up speed. The pounding of your heart feels so hard you are nearly sure that the person who’s hand you are moving towards can probably hear the banging drum of a beat coming from inside your chest, like some sort of primeval war drum.

The first touch of the other hand as you make connection and quickly realize the hand is not going to be taken away from your grasp sends a rush of endorphins flowing around your body producing an instant relaxing reaction to the touch. The unstoppable smile tracks across your face like the rotation of the earth nothing can stop it. From the fear of rejection we feel the relief of acceptance.

Anyone else feel anything like that? or just weird old lil me?

Btw what a fitting subject for today of all days the 14th of Feb. Hope all are well and a Happy Valentines to all!
