Running 101: What to Listen to while running?

I have been running a lot recently due to various things, gyms being closed, bikes braking down and an addiction to checking Nike run club leaderboards. Due to these reasons I have found myself clocking up over 50 miles a month over the past 4 months. Yes that is some crazy miles. Anyhow this is something I thought would be great to post on my blog to help inspire others to run or give you regular runnings out there a fresh new something to listen to while you are chugging along on the roads or trail!

Without further ado here’s my top 3 listens on my runs:

  1. Audiobooks
    These are my go to mainstay and one of the reasons I love running. Its such a great time when you are on your own to catch some of those knowledge gains as you are making exercise gains. 2 for 1! I know they aren’t great for tempo or speed run (not that I do any) but for chugging along either long runs or on the commute they are fantastic. This being my first choice may help any avid reader of my sporadic blog to get an insight into how I get through and review so many books!

  2. Reggaeton
    I love Reggaeton! Especially as a running partner. I don’t know any other genre that has such a high concentration of energy boosting bangers! If you are tired and need to get out for a run, put a Reggaeton playlist (All over Spotify, Youtube music etc.) into your ear canals and you will be bouncing through the streets Guaranteed! This is the sort of music that you find me stood waiting for traffic lights at 7am on my way to work dancing around to. Give it a go and let me know!

  3. 180 BPM Pop music remixes
    These are harder to find and seem like a niche to find a good one (some good playlists on YouTube and Spotify). For those that haven’t heard 180bpm is meant to be the optimum running tempo so basically this music should mean that you run at a great foot striking tempo if you use the beat as a metronome. I have certainly found I move quicker when I listen to these playlists. To be honest though it is hard to find playlists with great pop song remixes (by that I mean songs I can sing along to). I haven’t listened to this sort of music for a while as I only found a small number and burnout listening to the same ones on repeat, so any recommendations in the comments below would be greatly appreciated!
