“Like a good neighbour someone is there”

What a lovely phrase I have heard many a time since moving to the US a few months back.

It’s an interesting one, I don’t know about you but I have ‘meh’ neighbours, and usually do (apart from my hometown where we have some lovely neighbours). However I mean ‘meh’ in the fact that I give them a friendly Truman show like “Good morning, good evening and good night” when pass in the parking lot or on the street, but never really have a conversation with them or know what they do.

Interesting but I feel like this is a symptom of our modern day society where we are individuals who can do things independently and don’t need social contact or communication or support.

I think this is a fallacy really as we see more and more that people with greater social contact live longer healthier lives (The Blue Zones project providing some evidence behind this).
