My alarm woke me from a stuttering slumber at 545am on a surprisingly mild British September morning. Working away from home I had laid out my full running kit across the hotel room towards the door to entice me out of it when the alarm would eventually wake me to the dawn chorus. The birds tweeting and singing their morning song as I rubber my eyes and laced up my shoes.
I have only recently (This past Friday in actual fact) started back my running habit I wish it to continue for now 1 mile a day. Its a far cry from running Parkrun 5k every Saturday morning every morning for the 1st 2 months of 2020. I was hoping to hit the 50 Parkrun mark this year but as with everything this year COVID got in the way. But we must all start somewhere and 1 mile a day for me around 10mins is manageable and sustainable at the moment.
I have missed Parkrun since they stopped at the start of the UK lockdown, as I’m sure anyone who frequented them does too. The sense of community and achievement is one that is a great way to begin any weekend! Not sure why the Pubs are open but Parkrun isn’t with the obvious benefits of physical exercise on peoples health and wellbeing but who am I to say?
I was excited to see news of its imminent return at the end of September / October but with the new rise of cases across the UK I can’t see a return being anytime soon unfortunately but I will hold out hope and try to build my stamina up to be ready for when it does!
Todays run was interesting as the sun was still asleep and the sky dark only lit by streetlights and the occasional bright star that dared to peek through. It was a lovely fall morning run the air just the right amount of crisp but not too cold that it puts you off running again in the early morn. I am already looking forward to tomorrows as I sit in bed after work writing this post.
Whats your favourite time to run? Let me know in the comments.
